It’s amazing the number of downfalls that started—or in some cases ended—during this week in Boomer history.
In 1963 the Supreme Court struck down rules requiring the recitation of the Lord's Prayer or the reading of Biblical verses in public schools.
In 1972 five men were arrested inside Democratic national headquarters in Washington's Watergate complex, and we all know they weren’t really fixing the bathroom.
In 1991 the South African Parliament repealed the Population Registration Act, which was the basis for racial classifications in that nation.
In 1994 O.J. Simpson was arrested and charged with murdering his ex-wife, Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman. The arrest came on the heels of one of the slowest car chases in police history.
In 2005 former Tyco executives Dennis Kozlowski and Mark Swartz were convicted of looting their company of more than $600 million.
But Canada wins the prize for the biggest actual downfall (as opposed to the figurative downfalls described above): In Vancouver, B.C. in 1958 the half-completed Second Narrows Bridge across the Burrard Inlet collapsed. 19 workers were killed and another 20 injured. The crash caused $23 million in damage.
